The Travelling Circus of 16 August 1917 produced by the Australian Engineer Entertainers Committee and its members began with a huge procession that assembled outside the Sports Pavilion on the Bayard Recreation Ground. Preceded by the Depot Band it included Strong Men, Clowns, Charlie Chaplains, Pantomime Dames, a Pantomime Horse on a horse-drawn waggon and several other horse-drawn exhibits. Set pieces that day included the mock kidnap of ‘Lady Lucy’ and her rescue by the ‘brave Anzac soldiers’.
